Ice The Beef Equips Fair Haveners For School

New Haven Independent | Mother of ten Rameinak Armour-White picked up brand new book bags filled with supplies with six of her youngest kids, who are eager to head back to school safely after the large household struggled to concentrate on remote classes in the Spring.

Ice the Beef’s Latino Caucus distributed 430 book bags at the back-to-school giveaway, its debut event, on Friday outside of Christopher Columbus Family Academy.

Families like Armour-White’s were offered kids backpacks filled with school supplies, Covid testing, musical performances, and voter and census registration.

Anti-Violence Walk-Talkers Hit West Rock Streets

While celebrating his birthday on his Westville Manor front steps with his two granddaughters, Jose Valentin shared his perspectives of gun violence in New Haven with a group of 15 adults walking the neighborhood to talk to residents about stopping the violence.

Valentin works at a barbershop in the Hill. He agreed that all violence, especially gun violence, needs to stop.

Valentin said he sometimes deals with angry and violent youth at his barbershop. “These kids think ignorance is a joke,” he said.
