The two topics to be discussed could not be more timely and more important to our cause:

Project Longevity is a truly successful program exclusive to Connecticut in its statewide application. No one is better able to present and explain this program than our guest speaker Mike Lawlor, Under Secretary for Criminal Justice Policy and Planning, who has taken the lead in designing and implementing this program. Prior to this position, Mike was House Chair of the Judiciary Committee of the CT General Assembly and was a champion of our nation-leading gun safety laws. Project Longevity, after being initiated in 2011, has showed stunning results in reducing gun violence in our largest cities of Bridgeport, Hartford, and New Haven.

Equally important is the issue of Domestic Violence. Many of you  were involved in the campaign during this session in our attempt to pass the nation’s strongest Domestic Violence Temporary Restraining Order bill. We were all disappointed that the bill did not pass in the session. We were unable to get it to the finish line in time despite the determined efforts of Senate President Martin Looney. Senator Looney will be there to discuss what happened and how we can ensure the bill’s passage in the future.

We believe it is critically important for anyone passionate about preventing gun violence in Connecticut to be up to date and aware of these two vital topics.
